Waipio Valley Access Road remains closed to the general public as the Department of Public Works continues clean-up efforts due to the kona low weather system that impacted Hawaii Island last week.
The county plans to open the road to residents with valid driver’s licenses sometime on Friday, weather pending, as stipulated in the mayor’s Waipio Valley Road Continued Emergency rules No. 1 and 2.
Residents of the valley and farmers needing to access their lands are allowed to access the roadway through the weather-related closure but are asked to proceed with extreme caution. Upon reopening, the roadway will remain under the Second Amended Traffic Emergency Zone Declaration and Second Waipio Valley Road Declaration of Emergency and emergency rules will still apply.
